Start with Ledger: Secure Your Crypto in Minutes

Welcome to ledger.com/start — the safest way to set up your Ledger hardware wallet and manage your digital assets with Ledger Live. Follow the steps below to download, verify, and initialize your device so your private keys stay offline and under your control.

Download Ledger Live

Tip: Only download Ledger Live from the official website. Double-check the URL and consider bookmarking it for future updates.

1) Download & Verify Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the companion app for your Ledger device. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. After downloading, verify the file signature or checksum when possible and ensure your browser shows a valid connection to ledger.com.

2) Initialize Your Device

Connect your Ledger via USB (or Bluetooth where supported). Create a device PIN and confirm it on the screen. Your Ledger will generate your secret recovery phrase. Do not photograph, scan, or store it online.

  • Write down the 24 words in order.
  • Confirm selected words on-device.
  • Store the cards in separate, secure locations.

3) Add Accounts in Ledger Live

In Ledger Live, go to Accounts > Add account, then install the coin app on your device when prompted. Once synced, you can receive, send, and monitor balances without exposing your private keys.

  • Support for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and thousands of assets.
  • Track portfolio and transactions in one place.
  • Enable notifications for critical updates.

4) Strengthen Security

Keep firmware and Ledger Live up to date. Enable password lock on the app, verify receive addresses on your device screen, and never share your recovery phrase with anyone—no exceptions.

  • Update firmware from My Ledger inside the app.
  • Review trusted device checks and alerts.
  • Use a dedicated, safe computer network when possible.

Advanced: Staking, NFTs & Web3

With Ledger Live, you can stake supported assets, view NFTs, and access select Web3 services through trusted integrations. Always review on-device prompts and reject any action that looks unfamiliar or mismatched.

Troubleshooting & Support

If something doesn’t look right (unexpected pop-ups, address mismatches, or connectivity issues), stop and re-verify each step. Consult official help articles and only contact support through verified channels.
